so this month the window is looming and I'm feeling optimistic... if we where to conceive this month I'd be looking for that BFP on my 31st birthday... yeah I know... its going to be hard not to get my hopes up AND a Christmas delivery. This is the last chance for a 2009 baby.
Turning 30 wasn't such a big deal but I worry what my 31st birthday and no baby news would send me into a tail spin if I'm not careful. As my husband has said... he's not done trying yet. So I will keep on going and if we aren't lucky this month I'm going to buy an ov watch with birthday money. And then we'll see how many months without a positive I can stand before I put my foot down and go to the doctor to get some testing started. My naturopath has been so supportive as she and her husband tried for two years as well. We'll hit the 2 year mark this September.
I flip flop on getting the testing started just about every other day. Part of me is really afraid I will need some kind of lap surgery or tube "blow out" to get pregnant... and I'm not sure where that comes from since my own mother didn't have any issues conceiving. Then there is the side of me that says no don't call the doctor yet... they're just going to tell you to loose weight. I don't know how I've come to associate my ability to conceive with my weight... I guess other then my husband I don't have anyone in my family that gets what I'm going through. Then I have been encouraged by some to just gets started with the testing sooner then later... but here's the thing... going down the infertility treatment road is expensive and right now there is no room in the budget for these types of treatments... so maybe I'm avoiding the fertility dr's because I really don't want to know just yet that we are going to need there help.
oh geessssss I'm a bit of mess today I guess, rambling away. Just in my head at least... otherwise I've been feeling pretty good overall.
off to yoga tonight, massage on saturday and acupuncture next week.
within reason of course but I have to believe that all of this and all that I've experienced in my life to date has been for a reason

The Cardio-Free Diet
Ok I know some of you are going to thing cardio-free doesn't make sense but for me this makes a lot of sense and its Thursday and I haven't fallen off track with this program.
You can find Jim Karas book here and blog here (he will respond to your comments... just like he did for me)
After reading a post about someones 2 star review left on amazon.com I felt compelled to share a little of my story. I love his words of wisdom/reply (also below)
Hey Jim,
After reading the amazon review I just felt I had to share a small piece of my story with you.
Your paperback "cardio-free diet" is the first diet book I've ever finished reading and not only that I finished it in one weekend.
I have a vast collection of DVD workout videos that required a 6 day a week commitment... I couldn't do it... the longest I was ever able to last was 2 months and the result was 13 inches lost and 2 lbs (3 day circuit/weights, 3 day cardio) or the time I went the personal trainer root and my sessions turned into a counselling session listening to her problems (stupid!) Again lost a bunch of inches but no weight and she wanted me to start eating 2200 calories a day...holy crap... I ran far far away, I just couldn't wrap my head around it.
I believe the DVD workouts 6 days a week was the start of my yo-yo dieting efforts and the continued self-talk of I just can't... couldn't possibly do enough to see the results I wanted. So my DVD/Book collection will soon be listed on ebay, the elliptical that's been sitting in our bedroom is going in the classifieds and although I'm not following the books diet to the letter (we are trying to get pregnant so I thought 1400 calories a day would be better) I'm eating smaller meals/snacks when I'm hungry, going to bed earlier, stopped beating myself up and focusing on getting in my 3 weight sessions a week (which mentally/emotionally I can completely handle). I haven't stepped foot on a scale (I think they are the devil and know how it has effected my efforts in the past, downward spiral of binge eating and lost hope). Last time I stepped on a scale I weighted 222lbs. I'm a size 18 and just 2 years ago I weighted 190lbs and 2 years before that 175lbs. It was at 175 that I started my 6 days a week circuit/cardio efforts.
The cardio free way speaks to me because I hate the thought of having to do cardio but actually enjoy lifting weights!
I've got the PVR set to record CityLine today! Can't wait to watch!
Malinda:
A few points:
1. You can go to 1,200 calories a day, even when trying to get pregnant because every pound you lose INCREASES your chance of conceiving.
2. When you are pregnant, did you know that you should probably not gain any weight. I know that may sound odd, but talk about it with your doctor. Right now, the guidelines say that if you are over 200 pounds, it is best for the mom and for the baby if you don't gain any more weight. Plus, it will be that much easier to lose the weight after the baby is born, especially if you choose to breast feed.
3. Strength train like crazy. I never realized that as babies grow, they are harder to get out of the crib (and you keep lowering it as they grow), put in the car seat, carry around, you name it. The added strength makes all the difference.
I want you to eat lots of fruits and vegetables and lean protein, just as it is outlined in the book.
And think really positive. Kids are the BEST and I wish you all the success in the world.
Keep me posted.

No maybe this isn't a direct reply from Jim himself (who knows, I'm inclined to think it is) but I've got a little spring in my step today after receiving some guidance from this New York Times best selling author (or his people) and just wanted to share my excitement for finally finding myself almost accidentally back on the wagon!!!!

I'm trying to grasp emotional eating. My dad and I had a chat this weekend (we usually do this whenever I'm feelin' down). He knows me extremely well and he knows I've been down lately so we got chatting and I got some tears out and a big hug and I'm feeling not quite so overwhelmed. My self talk is horribly destructive and I know it, I know everything I need to know to succeed at weight loss I just end up saying F**k it and eat another sugary/salty crap.... its so overwhelming and the desire to see results quickly is unreasonable and I just throw my hands up and somehow manage to justify eating the things I know I shouldn't. I'm a TOTAL emotional eater (I'm ordering the book from amazon today!!) I need to overcome that, stop beating myself up all the time and I know I can make the weight loss happen.
I know what family looks like for Jamie and I and I've been feelin' so depressed that even the incentive of a healthy pregnancy, happy baby isn't enough of to make me want to do the right things to get there. I'm taking the pressure of trying off of us for now. I don't want to get pregnant at 220lbs!!! Not to mention my husband is a marine technician and has been going full out 70-80 hours 6 days a week for the last 2 months. I need to get my emotional eating and those trigger, as well as the awful self-talk under control so I can be a great mommy.
I've put my scale away!
I'm going to take a walk every single day for the next two weeks.
I'm going to eat as well as I can and not beat myself up, my focus is making walking a habit the next two weeks.
I'm going to catch up/finish the books that are most important to me. Dr. Greene fertility plan + emotional eating book.
I'm going to keep my ipod in my jacket so I don't forget it.
Food Today! UPdated!
1. kashi cereal + s.milk + 1/2 cup rass. n' blackberries
2. bean salad + c. tomatoes + olives + ww pita + baby bell cheese + hummus
3. pear yogurt
4. baby bell + 1/2 piece of flat bread
5. steak + corn/onions/potato
6. ice cream bar
Walk: 25 minutes from work (up to the bank, deposit and back again - 2 birds with one stone) + 45 minutes with Daytona when I got home. I even walked in the rain, which would normally be an easy way out of getting the walk in.
----------------------------
Yesterday however looked something like this:
1. carrot/ww muffin from Tims + g. tea
2. chocolate chip muffin
3. wendy's jr. bacon cheeseburger + fries + 1/2 root beer + frosty
4. samosas + olives + hummus + sesame flat bread
5. 2 ice cream bars (300 cal)
Home just after 5, crazy quick clean of the kitchen, trip to pick up veggies/fruit before cp closes, back to the house (forgot ipod) drop veggies/fruit and then to chiropractor, then for a walk at the park/waterfront, then to zehrs for afew more things, home again to clean out the fridge (garbage day/recycling cleaned up and sorted), prep a little dinner/snack and sat down to read/listen to tv at 8:45pm, bed at 11pm
Walk: 45 minutes on the waterfront with Daytona

I have a super full lunch box today! And I was so suprized how quickly I was able to pack it. Running late this morning I opened up the fridge thinking "Oh crap" what am I going to have for lunch and then BAM!
- large salad
- chopped up bbq chicken breast
- blueberries
- 2 hard boiled eggs
- kiwi
- my vitamins
- salad dressing
- strawberries
- yogurt
Probably won't eat everything but I was so pleased with myself that even running late this a.m. I have my lunch and I'm not coping out and heading to Wendy's for lunch!
If the rain holds off I'm planning on getting in another walk today. I set of goal for myself this month of 2 walks from work a week, ipod in hand!

I DID IT!
I took my 30 minute lunch away from my desk and went for a walk!!!!
1.38 miles/2.22km, I can feel my legs firing. I'm kinda suprised I made it around in 30 minutes with the wind working against me for the better part of the walk and I was heading up hill for 1/3 of it.
I feel good, I feel alive! I have promised myself that I'm going to focus on one day, one day at a time. ONE day! I can do one day.
I have been asking myself this morning what will I do today for me, for my health and for all I want to achieve?
holy yikes! tonight is it... the first class of my 10 weeks of learn how to roller blade. I really hope its a good class. I do want to learn but it freaks me out how it will be taught, how much experience other people will have, whether or not I'll make a total ass of myself and so on. I figure since its a 10 week thing... the are going to start with the basics. I don't even plan to put on my roller blades until someone tells me to. lol
Food!
1. ww toast w/PB + skim milk
2. banana
3. leftovers from last night (roast beef, potatoes, carrots, onion)
4. blueberries
5. more leftovers
6. dairy queen (husband brought home blizzards after his training tonight and I eat it) 770
He has been informed this is not to be a regular thing and we're knocking the treat factor down to one a week.
On the dog front. Remember how our Daytona was only getting 5 min. instead of his 30-45 minute walks? well last week was Daytona's first full week with our neighbour Rose. And by day 2 I felt like I was dropping my kid off to daycare for the day. I mean really that's what I'm doing. Rose has been amazing, he's been there all day.. she has a key to the house so he could spend the afternoon at home but she's kept him all day long! And when I pick him up I get the rundown on his day... which I love.. and Rose has a dog too, Teddy.. so he's still gettng socialized to dogs at the same time. I love knowing he had fun, was good and is learning and listening to someone else as well as he does us. I even pack his bag... the usually toys, treats, food/dish and a kong with peanut butter sometimes. He's our boy, a very spoiled fur kid! lol
I feel so lucky to have such great neighbours!

I think I've pin pointed why I can't keep up to a routine. I'm too focused on the big picture.
I get started.. yeah
I keep it up for a couple of weeks but then its just tooooo overwhelming the amount of weight I want to loose and then I sabotage my efforts again and again and again.
Why do I always focus on the big picture, why can't I just focus on today. this week, this month... why do I expect/ want the results... well... yesterday. And then in a couple more months I'll be kicking myself that I wasted all that time and I could have lost 10, 15, 20 lbs by now.
My limit use to be I don't want to get over 180, then 190 then no way I'll hit 200, no way 210 and now I'm 220. How did I get here??? how does this serve my body's needs, how does it ensure I'll be able to do all I want to do now and years from now?? Obesity is in our family on my mom's side, my aunt is very heavy and I use to wonder how she got that big, how did that happen but I can see it now.... the desire to feed my emotions good and bad with food is always there, a ticking time bomb of sorts, my self talk is all over the board, my mood from day to day is up and down and sometimes WAY down. This isn't the me I know I can be or want to be but I want to go eat an entire box of cookies, cake, pie, chips, donuts, fast food and sulk then do something about it.
I have some new books + a dvd coming from amazon.ca, they should be here by Friday. Jillian Michael's book + new dvd, chronicles of trying to conceive and a fertility diet book by dr. greene however that said I think we'll be taking a break from trying this month. its just so intense waiting for the period, hoping you won't get it... and I need to look after me first. I know I've been up and down on this over and over again just like weight loss but I've been saying for years that I wanted to get healthy before having a baby. I'm not going to put a number on it but I need to take better care of me so I'll be able to take care of a child. No reflexology this month... instead I've decided to send Jamie... I know he'll enjoy it just as much as I do.
Tonight I will see my chiropractor (so time for an adjustment), walk the dog and do a circuit!

DAY 7
So it's Wednesday and my little sister, flew in from NB last night, she's at my Dad and step mom's though and this weekend we are all going to meet up at the cottage a.k.a. Hanover. I love my sister very much be we could not be more complete opposites MOST of the time and I have a confession to make... I've been dreading her visit just a little. Over a year ago she joined weight watchers and lost a TON of weight. Her initial motive was my wedding day, yes I said my as in my day and I on the other hand couldn't drop more then 5 pounds before the big day (probably didn't help that the dress already fit and if I lost too much I would have no dress that fit). Anyways my sister looks great but sometimes she says really stupid things like "you have so much to loose, you'll drop lots of weight really fast" and the only comfort I take away from watching her going on and on about food and what she does or doesn't do is that she ......get ready for it.... smokes! She smokes and how is that keeping her healthy. I worry about her. I worry that she's lost all this weight in the most unhealthy way and it's going to come back and bit her in the ass. But if I try to offer something up about being healthy and taking care of yourself it's brushed off cause I feel she's thinking "how do you know what's healthy? look at you!"
I want this to be a great weekend, I know it will be. I just hope I've got myself in the best place possible that all the little jabs from person 1 and 2 will be kept to a minimum AND to top it off if TOM arrives this Sunday.... well it means we are onto try #6 so there will be the disappointment to shake off once again.
On a positive note the scale moved again and I lost almost 1 pound this week. I'm okay with this considering the minimal amount of physical actively I've been doing. And "they" say 1 to 2 pounds per week is what I should be aiming for.
1. cheerios + s.milk
1 green tea
2. 20 almonds
3. 5 olives + hummus + 5 mini pitas + 2 hard boiled eggs
4. yogurt + kiwi + g.flax
5. 1/2 blue label pizza (250 cal) + salad + 2 spring rolls (220 cal)
6. 2 dark chocolate squares (105 cal) - saving this for after aquafit, have to drive past a tim's to get to aquafit and sometimes I so just want a box of timbits, I looked it up 5 - honey dip and 5 - chocolate is almost 800 cal) - yuck!
Water: 88 fl. oz.
Active: Aquafit tonight!
Trying to be oh so good this week because the weekend will bring temptation!
So it's Wednesday and my little sister, flew in from NB last night, she's at my Dad and step mom's though and this weekend we are all going to meet up at the cottage a.k.a. Hanover. DAY 2
Well I took a peak at the scale and I'm so glad I did. I'm back to where I was before my screwed up weekend and start to this week so I'm feeling good about next Wednesday and what kind of drop I'll see then. I really want to see the scale go below 210 but I'm okay if that doesn't happen by Wed. cause I know it's coming.
Just last May I was down to 192 and that's my first goal. I want to see that number again. I can't believe I actually put on 26 lbs in 8 months, that's just awful... why did I do that to myself?!
1. 5 egg whites + 1 whole egg scrambled with lean turkey slices
1 cups of green tea
2. 20 almonds
3. salad + chicken + o. oil/vinegar dressing
4. plain yogurt + kiwi + 1 tbsp ground flax seed
1 cups of green tea
5. theo's souvlaki chicken 1/2 of it + small greek salad
6.
Water: 107 fl.oz.
Active: clean up the living room for a photo shoot tomorrow! Looking forward to picking up my camera for the first time this month. So many great things have been happening this month I'm really looking forward to how 2008 is going to play out.
