remember how I was all worked up about my sister's wedding and baby and when or if we would be attending with baby or fingers crossed a big belly??? well....... My sister and her fiance have decided to put the wedding on hold... they are still together but they're thinking they might do a destination wedding. You'd have to know my sister (a post all its own) but we where kind of thinking this might happen. I love my sister's spirit and zest for life... she lives in the moment but sometimes she has a tendency for neglecting to notice how her actions are affecting those around her... its been this way 4-EVER!!
Is it wrong that I'm kinda relieved? We hope so much that this year we'll be blessed with our own little one starting the next chapter as a family of three (+ one fur baby of course). And if that doesn't come and we're into some fertility testing etc I just want to be selfish and focus on us this year.... our relationship, our home, our family. Emotionally, financially and spiritually.
within reason of course but I have to believe that all of this and all that I've experienced in my life to date has been for a reason

Acupuncture
I had an acupuncture session with my naturopath today and an adjustment at the chiropractor. But the point of this post is the acupuncture... just thought I'd add it to the mix for this months baby making efforts... naturopath said its best to get as close to ovulation as possible... today is CD 10 and I have another appointment a week from today CD 17. I figure somewhere in there I'll be kinda close to ovulation.
Also she told me my calories where kinda low and suggested I start taking in 1700 based on my height, age, weight (guess on this since I refuse to allow a scale to dictate my mood). The concern is of course to be healthier but not to put my body into a starvation mode and in turn affect my already regular cycle.
I've started doing yoga again too... a bend, breath and conceive yoga practice and I'm really enjoying it, the breath and meditation has been awesome and I've had some awesome nights sleep this week.

On track!
I am very much feeling like I've been on track minus one thing... consistent workouts but as far as eating goes.. I've been hitting 1200 to 1400 everyday using livestrong.com and of course their iPhone app... give me an iPhone app and I'm all over it LOL I love my iPhone.
Aunt flow showed up again this month but its done and I'm over it... feels like everyone is getting pregnant right now and I feel like we're closer and closer each month to getting the equation just right. One of my gf's joked about giving it the good old college try this month but I'd say that's a good analogy. Lots of baby dancing this month all month long and probably some OPK monitoring. I had scheduled a reflexology session but I got an email from another friend who owns the clinic and the reflexologist has to reschedule (its a sign.. I'm suppose to save that money for maternity clothes... makes sense don't you think?!)
I hope who ever is out there in internet land that follows this blog is having a great weekend.
I should also mention I bought this over a week ago and hope it arrives soon... looking forward to practicing yoga again. I'll keep you posted on how it goes and do a little review.

Driving In
OMG what a drive in! I left home at 7:45am and got to work at 9am... the drive usually takes 30 minutes but I couldn't see must the last half except for the other cards flashing 4-ways, loose a car in front and you where in a complete white out. Oh and I was behind the blows going 40km but in hind side that was likely a blessing in disquise amking the drive not nearly as stressful.
Now I get to look forward to the drive home! Do you think just maybe it will let up today?! :-( That kind of drive makes me sssoooooooo tired!

The Cardio-Free Diet
Ok I know some of you are going to thing cardio-free doesn't make sense but for me this makes a lot of sense and its Thursday and I haven't fallen off track with this program.
You can find Jim Karas book here and blog here (he will respond to your comments... just like he did for me)
After reading a post about someones 2 star review left on amazon.com I felt compelled to share a little of my story. I love his words of wisdom/reply (also below)
Hey Jim,
After reading the amazon review I just felt I had to share a small piece of my story with you.
Your paperback "cardio-free diet" is the first diet book I've ever finished reading and not only that I finished it in one weekend.
I have a vast collection of DVD workout videos that required a 6 day a week commitment... I couldn't do it... the longest I was ever able to last was 2 months and the result was 13 inches lost and 2 lbs (3 day circuit/weights, 3 day cardio) or the time I went the personal trainer root and my sessions turned into a counselling session listening to her problems (stupid!) Again lost a bunch of inches but no weight and she wanted me to start eating 2200 calories a day...holy crap... I ran far far away, I just couldn't wrap my head around it.
I believe the DVD workouts 6 days a week was the start of my yo-yo dieting efforts and the continued self-talk of I just can't... couldn't possibly do enough to see the results I wanted. So my DVD/Book collection will soon be listed on ebay, the elliptical that's been sitting in our bedroom is going in the classifieds and although I'm not following the books diet to the letter (we are trying to get pregnant so I thought 1400 calories a day would be better) I'm eating smaller meals/snacks when I'm hungry, going to bed earlier, stopped beating myself up and focusing on getting in my 3 weight sessions a week (which mentally/emotionally I can completely handle). I haven't stepped foot on a scale (I think they are the devil and know how it has effected my efforts in the past, downward spiral of binge eating and lost hope). Last time I stepped on a scale I weighted 222lbs. I'm a size 18 and just 2 years ago I weighted 190lbs and 2 years before that 175lbs. It was at 175 that I started my 6 days a week circuit/cardio efforts.
The cardio free way speaks to me because I hate the thought of having to do cardio but actually enjoy lifting weights!
I've got the PVR set to record CityLine today! Can't wait to watch!
Malinda:
A few points:
1. You can go to 1,200 calories a day, even when trying to get pregnant because every pound you lose INCREASES your chance of conceiving.
2. When you are pregnant, did you know that you should probably not gain any weight. I know that may sound odd, but talk about it with your doctor. Right now, the guidelines say that if you are over 200 pounds, it is best for the mom and for the baby if you don't gain any more weight. Plus, it will be that much easier to lose the weight after the baby is born, especially if you choose to breast feed.
3. Strength train like crazy. I never realized that as babies grow, they are harder to get out of the crib (and you keep lowering it as they grow), put in the car seat, carry around, you name it. The added strength makes all the difference.
I want you to eat lots of fruits and vegetables and lean protein, just as it is outlined in the book.
And think really positive. Kids are the BEST and I wish you all the success in the world.
Keep me posted.

No maybe this isn't a direct reply from Jim himself (who knows, I'm inclined to think it is) but I've got a little spring in my step today after receiving some guidance from this New York Times best selling author (or his people) and just wanted to share my excitement for finally finding myself almost accidentally back on the wagon!!!!

Good Morning!
2009... oh dear.... a new year feels like being thrown back to square one in some ways... why is that?
I've decided I'm not setting any new years resolutions but instead I'll make a note of what I'm hoping for 2009
I'm hoping...
... for a wonderful round belly in 2009 and a happy healthy baby to follow
... to make a daily walk just part of my routine (poor Daytona I have not been very good at the walks in part because my patience for the training has been exhausting at times but he did a fantastic job last night)
... to arrive to work on time, make that before 8:30... I've had a terrible habit of getting here at 8:30am but I've enjoyed being here sometime between 8:00 to 8:20am... makes the 30 minute drive in more relaxing when I don't have the clock ticking
... to put all my small business funds into paying down our debts and then tucking it away for new photography equipment
... to continue planning our weekly dinners/lunches, shopping with a list for the week ahead and eating dinner at the table with my most awesome husband.
... to omit procrastination from my vocabulary... I've realized this is a huge part of how I work and although I manage to always get what needs to be done done I want to stop seeing those same "to do's" on my list week after week. I know in doing so a lot of other things will fall into place.
